Enhanced Resource Provision for children with autism or significant social communication difficulties

There are a limited number of places for pupils with a diagnosis of autism or significant social communication difficulties which is the identified primary need on their Education, Health and Care Plan.
Children in our enhanced resource provision are supported through a personalised timetable.  They are part of their mainstream classes as much as possible with additional adult support but also have access to additional activities which are specific to their individual needs.
Children who access the resource provision are unique and bring their own strengths, interests and personalities. There will be some commonalities amongst pupils in the resource provision relating to their core needs and difficulties, as detailed below:

  • They have significant difficulties and differences in the areas of social interaction, social communication, restricted interests and sensory sensitivities (a diagnosis of autism would confirm this).
  • They have an Education, Health and Care Plan where the above are identified as the pupil’s primary need.
  • They may have additional educational (learning) needs, but they are able to access parts of the mainstream curriculum, with adult support and appropriate differentiation.
  • They may demonstrate challenging behaviour but this is manageable within a supportive mainstream environment with support from members of staff who have specialist knowledge and understanding of social communication difficulties.

Application for places are made through an annual or interim review of a child’s Education Health and Care Plan at a their current school or setting.
