Curriculum Overview

The term curriculum refers to the lessons and academic content taught in a school or in a specific course or programme. It talks about the knowledge and skills pupils are expected to learn, which includes the learning standards or learning objectives they are expected to meet.

Parental Consultation Evening Dates for 2018-19

We hold an open evening each term when parents can make an appointment to speak to their child’s class teacher about their progress and look at their child’s work.

Open evening for the Autumn Term will be on Wednesday 17th October from 4pm to 7pm and Thursday 18th October from 4pm to 6pm.

Open evening for the Spring Term will be on Wednesday 6th February from 4pm to 7pm and Thursday 14th October from 4pm to 6pm.

 

Maths

This booklet gives parents information about the way that we teach maths in school, ways that you can help your child at home and a glossary of maths vocabulary that we use in school.

It is important that children have rapid recall of their number bonds and times tables as this underpins much of the maths your children will learn as they progress through the school. Supporting your child to learn their number bonds, multiplication facts and division facts is an invaluable way for you to support them with their maths. Even if they already know them, helping them to get quicker and more efficient will make a big difference.

How to help your child learn times tables

All children have logins for My Maths and Times Tables Rockstars and both of these sites have lots of activities that your child can do to help them learn their number bonds and times tables.

Reading Booklet for Parents

This booklet explains our home reading system, giving parents information about the colour coding system for reading books and information about class readers.

This booklet gives parents some ideas to help when reading with their child at home and includes questions to help develop children’s reading comprehension. If you would like any further ideas on how to help your child with reading please talk to your child’s class teacher.

Summer holiday homework

Choose your favourite activities over the summer holiday and write about them. Bring your writing along with photographs, pictures you have drawn or information leaflets from the places you have visited back to school on the first day and give them to your new teacher. All classes will be doing some work about the exciting things you have all done over the holidays over the first week back.

Remember to keep reading over the holiday and you can still use your Times Table Rock Stars and My Maths passwords to practice your maths!

For children moving into Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 there are some holiday maths packs below with some challenges that you might like to do to help make sure that you don’t forget all the things you have learnt this year:
