Friends of our School

Friends are a small group of parents who work hard to raise funds for the school. All parents are welcome to join the committee and informal meetings are held regularly.

We are linked with Azezo Elementary School in Ethiopia. Children in Year 4 and 5 have penpals at the school that they write to and undertake shared curriculum activities with. The whole school takes part in fund raising activities for Azezo Elementary School and have recently sent the school £600 to buy new books for their library.

We also have strong links with Ochanomizu Primary School in Japan. Children in Year 6 work on a joint project each term, exchanging work on an agreed topic. Staff from Ochanomizu Primary School recently visited us and children throughout the school enjoyed learning how to write Japanese letters and how to do origami. Ochanomizu Primary School is on the same site as Ochanomizu University and students from here spend time each year at Hull University. As part of their course work they visit our school and do a presentation for the children about life in Japan before sending the rest of the day with the children in their classrooms.

We are integral part of our village community. Annually we lead a carol service at St Nicholas church and the children are invited to open the church’s garden party each summer. The church, shops, nurseries are integrated into our curriculum projects.

The children raise money for a number of different charities and over the last year this has included:-
Jeans for genes
Viking Radio’s Secret Santa Appeal
Children in Need
Comic Relief
Royal British Legion
Hull Homeless and Rootless
British Heart Foundation
Water Aid

We have lots of visitors in school. Each summer term we have an industry day when numerous local businesses come and work with the children for the day.

We have links with the a number of local organisations including the PCSOs, the Parish Council, Withernsea High School, St Nicholas Church, the Co-op

We work with University of Hull ,Scarborough Campus taking teaching practice students.
We offer placements for students from all the local colleges and High Schools.

Fund Raising

Thank you for all your help in raising much needed funds for school.
