This week, in Geography we asked, ‘How are volcanoes formed?’ We learned about two types of volcano formations: constructive and destructive. Destructive volcanoes form when tectonic plates move towards each other forcing molten rock from below the crust upwards to create an eruption. Whereas constructive volcanoes form when tectonic plates move away from each other and create a chamber for molten rock to fill. We made fruity yogurt in DT. To do this, we had a chop apples, mixed frozen berries with sugar and stew these to make a thick, jam-like sauce. Once cooled, we added this to Greek yogurt and topped with toasted oats and some of us tried it with fresh mint. Also, this week, we were visited by a well-known children’s author: Joseph Coelho. He chatted to us about what inspired him to become a writer, his love for poetry and we learned some types of poetry such as one words poems and limericks. In Science, we investigate how plants transport nutrients from the soil through roots to the xylem. We tested this by adding food colouring to water and adding storks of celery. Over the next week, we will observe what will happen. We predict the celery should begin to change colour as the xylem transports the food-coloured water up the plant.
Our Flashback 4 questions this week were:
1.Which does a plant not need to make its own food? Carbon dioxide, water, light or space to grow.
2.Muslims visit this building and pray because they believe it is special. What is it called?
3.Stewing is a cooking technique. What does it mean?
4.Which is the smallest settlement? City, town, village or hamlet.
Next week, we will be asking, “What is a plants life cycle?” and will be making popcorn in DT.
